Former Manteno resident murdered in Texas
Apr 19, 2018According to media reports, Sophia “Sophi” Sullivan’s husband, Daniel Sullivan, is alleged to have stabbed her multiple times in the couple’s home. He was arrested by Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Department. He is being held on $130,000 bond.Their 7-year-old son, Keegan, witnessed the assault and told police his father killed his mother, according to police.Sophia Sullivan was a graduate of Manteno High School.Sophia’s father and stepmother, Charles and Nina Sabey, live in Manteno. She also is survived by her mother and stepfather, Theresa and Gregg Blain, of Odessa, Texas; sister Hannah Sabey, of Manteno; and brothers Hunter Blain, of New York, and Ian Gregory Blain, of Odessa, Texas.Her father, Charles Sabey, posted to Facebook on March 20:“I have to share what I can hardly grasp and deal with since you are my family and friends. My angel of a daughter lost her life last Friday. Her husband, Dan, has been charged with murder. Their son Keegan, age 7, was present and physically unharmed.“My daughter had no malice or hatred in her toward anyone. As her name means, Sophia was truly wise, loving to a fault, and had a huge heart for the young, especially the high school students she lovingly taught in Marfa, Texas, encouraging them all the time.“Sophia will come back to Chicago to be buried. Arrangements are pending.“My heart goes out to all the parents who belong to this group, unwillingly, who have lost a child. It is a pain that is unfathomable and I don’t know if tomorrow will bring any relief. I’ve already taken comfort in the love and messages from others. We are all we have in a world where the foundation is pain and suffering. In the midst of this, you must embrace joy where and when you can, and be intentional in your loving for even the unlovable. Love is the only balm that has a chance to mend a broken heart.”According to police reports, the 30-year-old Daniel Sullivan called 911 and believed someone had murdered his 31-year-old wife, and that she was in the home.Sullivan told deputies that he had come home from work around 6:30 p.m...
